Advanced Hymenomics

One suspects that it’s a hoax. Yet another exquisitely beautiful woman is auctioning off her virginity. This time, the comely lass goes by the name of Elizabeth Raine. Apparently, she is a 28-year-old medical student. The current high bid, per her website, is over $500,000… which is not even close to the record. The most expensive virginities are listed here.

Real identify: The 27-year-old medical school student, pictured, who is auctioning off her virginity on the internet has already received bids in excess of $300,000, as she reveals her face in an effort to attract more hefty offers

One remembers Natalie Dylan, a Women’s Studies major from California who tried to auction off her virginity several years ago. The bidding reached nearly $4,000,000 before the winning bidder pulled out… so to speak. No further news about Dylan is available, so people sensibly believe that she was perpetrating something of a fraud.

For some strange reason, many of the women who engage in this form of hymenomics have been inspired by their courses in Women’s Studies. The same applies to women who are selling their bodies for tuition money.

Think about famed Women’s Studies major, Belle Knox, the Duke University freshman who has been working her way through college by starring in porn… and by doing the rounds of the nation’s finest strip clubs.

For her part, Elizabeth Raine offers a theoretical rationale for her action. She does not want you to think that she is just a body. She has a mind too.

She especially does not want anyone to believe that her actions as what she calls a “virgin whore” in any way suggest that she has no self-respect. Evidently, Raine is at the cutting edge of advanced feminist thought.

In her words:

What makes my virginity auction truly distinctive is that I am exceptionally well educated, financially independent, and entirely willing to lose my virginity in this manner; in fact, I think it is a fantastic idea! However, I hope I have not given you the impression that I do not value my virginity, because this is not the case at all. I value my virginity enormously, just not for the typical set of reasons. I do not believe it is a sacred gift that should be reserved for the man I love, nor is it a testament to my honor, virtue, or purity (not to say that I am void of these traits). Rather, I value my virginity as something that is very much my own and a testament to my free-spirit and independence. Please consider this as you contemplate your bid. Lastly, I would like to add that while my virginity does have a price, my self-respect is absolutely priceless.

To which she adds her more modern view:

As you probably know, in almost every society a high value is placed on a woman’s virginity. Unfortunately, far too often, this value is wielded as tool of female suppression - usually by chaining virginity to morality, in place of more important virtues such as intelligence, kindness, courage, and good humor. In stark contrast to this, my independence, education and freethinking mind place me in the very unique and powerful position of being able to do with my virginity what I will. While I do not wish for such a high value to be placed on virginity, this is the current reality. Considering this reality, I ask you, shouldn’t the value of virginity benefit women rather than hurt them? I see no good reason why I should not take advantage of mine. So while my virginity auction may be and should be a topic of debate, I hope you can tell it is my sincere belief that I am not on the wrong side of this social issue. I will also say, at its core this is a very personal matter, and no one who dares to judge has the same perspective I do or will be as affected by this decision as me. From where I am sitting, this feels right and just plain clever. Is it possible it will turn into a mistake? They say anything is possible, but there really is only one way to find out!

Is it a hoax? Who knows?

If it isn’t, then someone will recognize her picture and will reveal her true identity.

How is this not prostitution? And why do cops crack down on street prostitutes but not this high-priced version of them.

That said, she says this: "What makes my virginity auction truly distinctive is that I am exceptionally well educated, financially independent..."

This sounds a lot like two women who lost their virginity to me. If I made this economic, I probably spent around $100 total on all the dates combines. Anyone willing to pay much more than that is a John...and a sucker. (PS: Virgins are usually a pretty so-so experience, so if you're gonna spend, you may as well get a pro.)

She proclaims too loudly that she is independent, educated and not a "Virgin Whore".
A snobbish prostitute.

These new educated hookers can now compete for Johns by listing their degrees, grade point average and graduate schools.
Ivy league women will charge more.

The way things going, there is probably a Women's Studies professor somewhere pimping out her students.

There are soulless predators everywhere that can easily hide nowadays behind the façade of "educator"

Selling oneself is supposed to be illegal. And it should be. People are not commodities.

On the bright side, it's interesting to know that the gift I gave my husband on our wedding night is worth so much.

I like it -- helps strip away the facade that today's New Woman has some intrinsic value men should prize.

IMO, Stuart is bang on with his keen observation that "women who engage in this form of hymenomics have been inspired by their courses in Women’s Studies".

Led by feminist ideology, women have spent the last four decades commoditizing themselves. Now, with a cohort of single mothers and unmarried women roosting like chickens, there's a feminist-fed push to convince men they should find New Women appealing.

This unhinged effort involves providing men with intellectual explanations why they should be viscerally drawn to New Women, in the same primal way they always have been to feminine women. Enquiring minds may wish to contemplate the likes of "Five Reasons to date a Feminist".

http://www.bluethenation.com/2013/07/29/5-reasons-to-date-a-feminist-woman/

There they will read: "In my opinion, there is nothing more desirable than a strong-willed, intelligent, self-possessed woman."

Mmmmm... makes my motor run! It's as exciting as hearing Ms. Raine declare her virginity "a testament to my free-spirit and independence".

Of course she values her virginity! And she wants to know how much someone else values it, by his bid.

Lastango,

Does kind of play into the "We know what you are. We are just haggling over the price." meme.

As a counter point: http://linkis.com/misfitpolitics.co/20/4f7Si

I am some what encouraged by the response by a preponderance of women commentators. It would seem that there is an underlying change happening that the "media," which is populated by feminists, has not recognized nor can they relate to it. This is indicated by the couple of women who post here. Most of the comments here are not anti-women. They are anti-radical feminist who really are bigots.
I would posit that feminism only represented a small subset of women, including women in colleges and universities that are the useful idiots that radicals need to maintain the fiction that drives feminism. Ergo it is why you see the attack on marriage by feminism because marriage is the first time that both men and women have to think of someone other than themselves.
Just as they try to handicap young boys in the public education system they have to handicap young single women. As they say "You come a long way baby." Right back to what you said you did not want to be perceived. If so many women were not hurt by feminism I would really enjoy the humor contained therein.

Hey Stuart, did you coin this snarky word, hymenomics? At least your 2009 blog seems the only other google match. We define it as "hymen economics", right?

It is a bizarre idea, at least traditionally the value of virginity was supposed to be for your husband, and of course endless potential for deception and paranoia that your future wife isn't what she claims, while the same apparent need for "proof" is needed to prove the one-time value that is about to be extinguished.

I remember the story of exotic dancers were aspiring college students, at least maybe that story helped my extroverted male friends think they're doing charity work, or maybe that was my explanation of my friends' enthusiastic idiocy.

I'm also reminded of this story (below), although really it just teaches me that we're all prostitutes at heart, willing to contemplate doing otherwise humiliating things under the promise of future financial security.

Given the amount of student debt is being shackled to this generation of students (beyond bankruptcy's power to clear), perhaps a moment of one-time humiliation is worth it to avoid a lifetime of debt? At least I'm not sure there's a great difference between prostitution and debt-slavery, just a difference when you pay the price, up front or later on.

http://quoteinvestigator.com/2012/03/07/haggling/
"A man asks a woman if she would be willing to sleep with him if he pays her an exorbitant sum. She replies affirmatively. He then names a paltry amount and asks if she would still be willing to sleep with him for the revised fee. The woman is greatly offended and replies as follows:

"She: What kind of woman do you think I am?

"He: We’ve already established that. Now we’re just haggling over the price."

To the best of my knowledge, I get the credit (or the blame) for coining the snarky word: hymenomics.
